Iris Relay Service Overview
Iris, developed in 2017 in collaboration with the National Foundation for the Deaf, offers remote support for the deaf and hard of hearing throughout Greece. Users can access free interpretation to and from sign language and lip-reading (Relay Service) instantly through the Iris app, without the physical presence of an interpreter. Interpretation occurs via video call directly connected to the National Foundation for the Deaf, in a specially designed space. This service is available 24/7, 365 days a year, free of charge.
Additionally, users can make emergency calls for ambulance, police, fire department, and civil protection. Misuse of the service is punishable by law. Remote interpretation service is provided free of charge by the National Foundation for the Deaf. Data charges for using the app and making video calls are based on your provider's current tariff and program.
